Known as “The Diva” of Ocean Drive, this landmark Art Deco hotel overlooks the ocean on Miami’s South Beach. Boasting 45 oversized guest rooms and 3 penthouses, The Tides Hotel is where luxury meets classic Art Deco style in the form of streamlined elegance represented by curved corners, wraparound windows and 3 iconic portholes on the building’s façade.

Objective

To cater to the needs of a luxury clientele, the management of The Tides wanted to upgrade the in-room audio-video systems for all the guest rooms.  As newer, more modern hotels were springing up all along the beaches and extending inland, The Tides needed to offer state-of-the-art amenities that are expected from one of the finest hotels in Miami, yet keep the understated elegance for which the hotel has always been known.

Challenge

Preserving the integrity of the hotel’s historic Art Deco architecture was paramount in this project.  The design and placement of the new equipment needed to complement the existing Art Deco feel without detracting from it.  And to further complicate matters, the hotel would be operational during the project, so the hotel could not risk having any work being done that would interfere with guests’ enjoyment of the property.

Solution

The Tides Hotel turned to ECI because of its national reputation for quality, professionalism, workmanship and creativity.   ECI assembled construction contractors specializing in Art Deco renovations, painting and finishing as well as audio-video technicians and licensed electricians.  This expert team developed multiple solutions to discretely install the equipment in each guest room while maintaining the structural and architectural integrity of the hotel’s original design.

Walls were opened and support structures, cables and wires were run to mount 42” Plasma and 26” LCD TVs and install digital DVD players in each room thereby providing guests with entertainment and amenities to enhance their stay.  The resulting fit and finish blended beautifully with the room design ultimately giving guests the very best of the new with the old.

Results

Despite an extremely rigorous timetable and coordinating many schedules, ECI completed the project ahead of schedule and most importantly without interrupting the hotel’s reservations and planned events or intruding upon guest stays. Today, The Tides Hotel offers modern state-of-the-art audio and video systems in every room while guests enjoy the traditional beauty and elegance the hotel and its surroundings provide.
